Opal Tabb Jennings of Vance, 101, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Flowers Manor in Clarksdale of heart failure.

Services were Sunday, May 11, at 3:00 p.m. at Walnut Baptist Church at Walnut with burial in Lambert Cemetery at Lambert.  Rev. Ed Campbell officiated.  Kimbro Funeral Home of Marks had charge.

Born August 26, 1906, she was retired and a lifelong member of Walnut Baptist Church.  Mrs. Jennings was in the first graduating class at Walnut High School and attended Delta State University.  In 1925, she married the love of her life, Thomas Arthur Jennings, and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.  She was preceded in death by her husband, and three children, Jack Jennings, Mary Jennings Harp and Kathryn Jennings Davis.

She is survived by five daughters, Juanita Carmichael of Brandon, FL, June Melton (Frank) of Brazil, Eloise Swindoll (Tom) of Hernando, Faye Whisenant (Herbert) of Brandon, FL, and Carol Hill (Charles) of Hot Springs, AR; a son, A. E. Jennings (Shirley) of Batesville, 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Walnut Baptist Church.

Albert J. Johnson of Lambert, 61, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis of heart failure.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at Woodland M. B. Church in Lambert with the Rev. Terry Myles officiating.  Burial was in Johnson Cemetery. Delta Burial Corporation of Marks had charge.

Born May 18, 1945, in Lambert, Mr. Johnson was a farmer.  He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Johnson and his brother, Johnnie Johnson.

Survivors include his mother, Delia Johnson of Marks; five brothers, Augusta Johnson of Ocean Springs, William D. Johnson of Gautier, Willie Johnson of Pascagoula, and Henry Johnson of Mt. Vernon, IL; three sisters, Rose Anna Strickland of Lambert, Rosetta Johnson of Clarksdale, and Mary Johnson of Marks; and Rosie Lee Pugh of Lambert, a special friend for 17 years.

Cecil “Mike” Jones, Sr., 84, of Chicago, formerly of Quitman County, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, in Illinois.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, at Tabernacle M.B. Church at Belen with Rev. Boyd officiating.  Internment was at McLaurin Memorial Gardens.  Delta Burial Corporation of Marks had charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born November 14, 1914, at Batesville, to the late Sonny and Woodie Mae Collins Jones.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marcella Maud Whitten Jones; his brother, Sam Miller Jones; his sister, Mrs. Iona Jones Darden; daughters, Ruthie Mae and Woodie Ann Jones and a son, Maurice Jones.

He was a proud man of many accomplishments and was highly respected in his community.

A celebration of his life was held Saturday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Holly Grove M. B. Church at Crenshaw with Elder Clavorn Logan, II, officiating.  Interment was in Honolulu, HI, with the repast served at Holly Grove Fellowship Hall.  Delta Burial Corporation of Marks had charge.

Born April 1, 1965, in Crenshaw to Minnie Louise and Casey Jones, he was their first son and was dearly loved by his six sisters.  He accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mary M. B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Hall.

A 1984 graduate of North Panola, he left behind many childhood friendships which continued through his life and joined the U. S. Army.  He traveled out of the U. S. in December 1984, to his first duty station in Hardheim, Germany.  He married Andrea in Hardersley, Denmark, on June 13, 1986, and then transferred to Ft. Stewart, GA, where their first child was born in Hinesville, GA.  He later changed duty stations and returned to Wiesbaden, Germany, where their second child was born.  In 1991, the family transferred to Ft. Sill, OK.  Stan was honorably discharged from the Army in 1992.  He remained active in the U. S. Army Reserve and began his civilian career in 1992 as a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. Their last child was born in OK.

In December 2006, Stan’s Reserve unit was activated for a tour in Iraq.  He received training at Ft. Bragg and also Ft. Dix for civil affairs.  He was in Iraq from March 2007 to March 2008 and returned home safely.  He was fortunate and received his first choice of duty stations at Ft. Shafter in Honolulu.

SFC Stanley Jones was a Civil Affairs specialist with the Special Troop Bn, USAR Pacific Command.  He traveled to Japan, Australia, the Philippines, and Bali.  This was truly “paradise” for Stan living in Hawaii.

He leaves to celebrate his life and memories his wife, Andrea Jones of Lawton, OK; three children, DeAngelo and Dominique Jones of Lawton, OK, and Brooke Jones of Flordia; his mother, Minnie Louise Jones, and his father, Casey Jones, of Crenshaw; his sisters, Patricia (Clay) Logan of Edwards, Vera (Austin) Chiverton of Sunrise, FL, Gladys (George) Wilson of Bel Air, MD, Priscilla (Glenn) Greer of Jackson, Charlie Buford of Crenshaw, Edna Jones of Levittown, PA, Martha Buford of Livingston, NJ, and Quiana Jones of Glen Burnie, MD; aunts, Pearl (Terri) Mills of St. Louis, MO, Lillie, Josie, Shirley, Daisy, and Loretta of Florida; uncles Joe, Alan and Frank of Florida; great aunt Sadie of Arkansas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of friends.
