Hinchcliff was named for Titus Hinchcliff. Mr. Hinchcliff was born in Arkansas and spent a large part of his life in Illinois. He was with the Illinois Central Railroad for forty-three (43) years. In coming to Mississippi for a deer hunt, he became interested in Delta land. Mr. Hinchcliff bought a plantation. The post office and railroad stop bears his name.
Mrs. Virgie Cooper Sims [Virgil Y. Cooper Sims 1879-1915] taught the first school and was the postmaster.
